So the picture above is of Anyan’g Nyongo’s son and yes your eyes are not fooling you; he is indeed in a red thong and heels. Damn! Prof. Anyan’g Nyon’go must be a very strong dad. It is every parents wish, however suppressed, that their children take after them. “You can be anything you want to be sweetheart,” they say but what they really want to say is, ” You are meant to be a doctor like me or I was to be a doctor until that sly man called your father slithered into my pants so now its your destiny!” But here are Anyan’g Nyongo’s children; one acting as a slave and being whipped butt naked on screen (which we are very proud of by the way) while her brother is on a runway cat walking with female clothes— like I said, strong dad.
But Anyan’g Nyongo’s is not my point of concern here. The above photo proves that in as much as we try to close our eyes we can no longer as a country ignore the presence of the LGBTQ2 (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, 2-spirited) community— trust me I also got lost at queer. Most of us are too closed minded cowering behind our so called ‘Africanness’ that any time the subject is brought up it is quickly shot down with either some verse from parts of the bible that still tell women not to do this or that during their menses or go into a rehearsed speech of how it is unnatural. But who are we to decide what is natural or not. She’s the mom; she decides. Besides it is in accordance with the laws of nature for us to try and defy nature and hence any unnatural act is in fact natural. (I know I’m such a philosopher. I don’t even know why I’m wasting my time waiting for these exam results while I should be teaching at the university.) Oh and I also hear that two male lions were captured mating with each other in a Kenyan national park; that’s nature right there showing us the middle finger.
We are so hypocritical that we can watch Empire and ogle at how awesome Jamal is but if we see Kamau pierce his ears (which means nothing by the way) we start giving him side looks and calling him names. But the real sign of hypocrisy is that most people, especially men, are okay with lesbians but can hardly stand gays. “If its girls its okay, in fact its hot. Can we have a threesome?…. Followed by some very graphic words” But let you suggest a threesome where two men are involved, all hell comes loose. But what is the difference? Homosexuality is still homosexuality no matter the gender involved and we can try and fight it or ignore it but fact is that this people exist, are increasing in number and we are in no position to judge them.
Who someone is sleeping with should be no one’s business. Besides, I wonder what the big sin is yet nobody gets hurt. James sleeps with John and they are both stoned to death. Mr. Greedy steals millions of money from the health sector and thousands of people die because there is no money to pay the doctors but he still gets reelected. Am I the only one seeing the absurdity in this two scenarios?
All in all, I do believe that Kenya has greater issues to tackle other than who is between the sheets with whom. So let’s just accept and love each other because in the end we will all help in paying our debt to China, Chichi or not.
